April 26, 2015

First off, I forgot to tell you that transfers were last week. We're both staying the same so I didn't matter. Elder Fauga left and Elder Coffey is here with Elder Haws now, also Elder Glenn that came out with me is in my zone now. So it will be good to see some more people that I came out with. Everyone in our zone has been out less than a year.

This week we taught Jim a couple of times but he's not really progressing because he doesn't want to read the Book of Mormon because it might destroy his beliefs in the bible and he just doesn't get it.

We have done some tracting this week and handed our lots of cards and a couple of Book of Mormons. We did find one new investigator whose are going to teach next Saturday. We went round visiting lots of members. We still haven't been able to meet them all.

We didn't have a lesson with Lee this week because he had to work but he did come to church! And it was a broadcast stake conference and Elder Andersen and Hales spoke, so that was great!

We went to the prison again this week and that was pretty exciting again. He is doing good though and he only has 2 more months until he gets out. He's doing all he can to stay out of trouble, which pretty much means stay by himself. He said that even something like playing basketball can get into an argument then someone ends up getting stabbed because the prisoners have all sorts of stuff they find like nails and the make all sorts of weapons he won't even watch people play ball because he doe t want to get wrapped into something. So, he's doing good and his dad is planning on getting baptized when he gets out.  I still didn't take a picture of it yet, sorry.

We went to the senior center this week and I started making a hat so I'm slowly getting better at it.

Nothing else except long days of trying to find someone to teach.

Love ya!

April 20, 2015 ~ Service Week!

Hello guys!                                                                              April 20, 2015

This week went pretty good. We didn't have as many lessons as usual because a bunch of people cancelled on us, but that's ok. We did a lot of service this week though.

Tuesday, we went with Bro. McNees to go and take down a deck from some less active's house so that took most of the day. It was hot too and I got a little sunburned. We did all of the usual stuff on Wednesday and we went to dinner at some member’s house.  He has his roof covered in solar panels. It really cool, he was showing us how it all works and he says some months he produces enough power that he gives it to the power company. Pretty cool! We also gave him a blessing because he was going into surgery the next day and he was sore for one day then he was back to normal. Also, pretty cool.

We went to the senior center and did some more knitting with the old people again. We went another day to finish the deck and the kids had a basketball hoop on the driveway so we had a dunk contest. We've been doing missionary work with the Workman’s; the new senior couple since they live right across the street. They are really fun and they have cool accents and love basketball. We tried running one morning but Elder Gubler’s knees hurt so we only made it half a mile. We started a ward basketball night and that was good. We are going to try and get the college kids to come and hopefully it will open doors and we are encouraging members to bring their friends.

Saturday, we went on exchanges and Elder Fauga came to Brockport with me. We did a community day of service at our church where all of the other churches came and we did stuff for the hospitals, made blankets, cards, cough packs, surgery dolls, etc... And that was good. Also Elder Fauga was trying to teach me Samoan, so now I know a couple of words.

Sunday, I spoke with my companion and the Elder quorum president who went to school at USU. Then we went and served food at the Baptist
Church, then we went to the clothing closet. We were helping sort clothes and hang stuff up for he community to have. It was nice. The College's girl’s tennis team was serving and they were all super nice and seemed kind of interested but the problem is we can't go onto campus to proselytize. So, we won't be able to teach them more unless they live off campus and we can find them. The town gets pretty crazy on Friday nights! All of the students are walking around the streets, drunk.

Tons of people playing beer pong in the front yard and the streets in the morning are covered in alcohol bottles. New York college town is a lot different than Utah college town. That's pretty much it.

Love ya!

April 13, 205 ~ A trip to the New York Maximum Security Prison

This week was good!                                                                          April 13, 2015

The weather is finally getting better! There were a couple of cold days and really windy days but it's getting better. It's supposed to get up to 77 today! The down side is that it is getting humid again!
So, this week I don't really remember what I did on specific days so I'll just tell you all of the things. We had a couple of good lessons with some of our investigators so hopefully that will progress. One of them named Lee, who is our most promising one, really understands everything we teach and he thinks everything is right but he has to finish the Book of Mormon first. We are planning on going to the sights with him in June so hopefully I'm still here for that. He was talking to us about something he read and how he knows that Adam and Eve's fall is essential to the plan. We didn't even talk with him about that but he gets it. He's ready to go to the temple! We did some tracting, visiting lots of people, got kicked out of a neighborhood, etc.... All of the usual stuff.

I went on exchanges with Elder Haws this week. I really like him, and we have a lot in common, he loves basketball obviously since he has a cousin who might go to the NBA, he likes mountain biking, running, etc... So we had a great time in Spencerport, and we got soaked!! We were walking for most of the day and it was pouring! And whenever a car is passing us I swear they speed up to try and splash us.

We went to one of New York's maximum security prisons this week! That was a pretty interesting experience! If you think getting through airport security is bad try to get into a New York maximum-security prison!! We had to go through metal detectors, fill out a ton of paperwork, go through probably five walls of barbed wire fences, have secret stamps on our hand that are only seen by this one officer with this special light, huge cell doors, etc.. Then they lock you in so you can't get out! There is a member in there from down by NYC. He's this big buff Samoan guy with a beard and dreads. He a super nice guy, he just had a drug problem but he reads the Book of Mormon for an hour every day! He is the librarian for the prison and try's to stay out of trouble. All he does is eat, work out, and read. He gets out in July, so hopefully he continues to stay on the right path.

Also, last night we went to Toms for dinner and he fed us bear and moose! It's pretty good.

Anyways, that's pretty much my week.

April 6, 2015~ "I loved conference!"

This week was good! We did all of the usual things, knocking on lots
of doors, meeting with members, etc... We got one new investigator this week named Tom and he's a friend of brother McNeese, so hopefully it will work out good. He loves hunting and showing us pictures of all of the stuff he's shot and his animals downstairs. Dad you should send me some pictures of Garret's animals and stuff because he'd really like that. Also, a picture of us in Alaska with the fish and maybe the one with the big red snapper please? Thanks! Anyways nothing to exciting besides that except for conference! I loved conference! I wish they would do that every month! Sorry for the short letter, nothing to exciting except for the usual.
